A Successful Weekend on the West Coast
The dual started off with the 165-pound match. It was a hard fought battle for redshirt freshman Shakur Rasheed. He faced Stanford’s No. 6 Jim Wilson and kept the match close until the third period. It was tied 2-2 going into the third and Wilson chose down to start. He quickly escaped to a 3-2 lead, but Rasheed forced him into another stall warning– Wilson’s second– and tied things up at 3-3. Rasheed took one last shot at the end of the bout, which Wilson countered for a Cardinal takedown and added on a riding point to secure the 6-3 victory for Stanford.
Two bouts later and the Nittany Lions got their first pin. Senior No. 1 Morgan McIntosh pinned Stanford’s Boomer Fleming in 4:11 minutes and pushed Penn State ahead 13-3.
The other two pins came at the end of the dual from sophomore No. 2 Zain Retherford (6:35 minutes) and redshirt freshman No. 4 Jason Nolf (5:24 minutes).
It was Retherford’s third pin in the first four meets of this season.
The victory puts the Nittany Lions at 4-0. The team returns home this Sunday for the annual Nittany Lion Open tournament beginning at 8:30 a.m. in Rec Hall.
