Just Keep Winning
I watched the whole game on Saturday just because it was so fun. It must have been REALLY fun to attend, for the Penn State fans anyway, since they were the only crowd left by the fourth quarter. The weather was bitter, but the victory sure was sweet.
I’ve got that little ditty from Finding Nemo in my head, except it sounds like: Just keep winning, just keep winning, winning, winning. What do we do? We win, win. La, la, la, la I love to wiiiin!
I’m sorry (not sorry), I just can’t help myself. It feels like it's been so long since we could thoroughly enjoy ourselves that I’m going to keep reveling in it, and I don’t care who minds. Unless Urban Meyer minds. Then I’m really, really going to enjoy myself. And, seriously, that’s it. Just keep winning. Let’s see where this all takes us.
When we beat Ohio State so many weeks ago (you guys, we BEAT number two ranked OSU, remember THAT?!), I had this beautiful, wild thought: what if we went ten and two?? Wouldn’t that be something?!
And here we are, knocking on the door of a 10-2 season. Last week, I wrote that I’m not surprised. I’m not surprised that we are finally finding the success that was always pushing to break free, like Barkley looking for a hole or an obstacle to leap. I am a bit surprised we’re finding it so soon. I thought for sure we’d have to suffer through another mediocre season before we’d be talked about again nationally.
It’s probably too soon to be typing this. I mean, no matter how it shakes out this weekend, this season has been a nearly unbelievable success, but focusing on the task at hand is key.
Are you nervous? I’m nervous! I’ve been putting all of my positive Penn State energy towards our upcoming duel with Michigan State. The Spartans may be having a rough season, but they just nearly beat Ohio State last weekend. We were having a rough season once too, until our Ohio State game, so I think a healthy sense of wariness is in order for Saturday.
Until then, I think I’ll start humming another little ditty we know well:
HAIL! to the Lion, loyal and true.
HAIL! Alma Mater, with your white and blue.
PENN! STATE! forever, molder of men (and women),
FIGHT! for her honor — FIGHT! — and victory again.
Go State! Beat the Spartans!
