Nittany Lions Earn Road Win Against Northwestern, 71-62

For Penn State men’s basketball, wins have been few and far between in the Big Ten Conference. However, with their earliest conference win since 2012 happening earlier this season and a road win against Northwestern Saturday night in Evanston, things are looking up for the Lions.

The seniors led the charge for the Nittany Lions with Brandon Taylor scoring a team-high 19 points while Donovan Jack chipped in with 14 to lead the team to a 71-62 victory over the Northwestern Wildcats.

Penn State (11-8, 2-4) played an aggressive offense from tip-off with Brandon Taylor sinking a pair of threes early in the first half to give the Nittany Lions momentum against a competitive Northwestern (15-4, 3-3) side. Penn State did not lead the game until the 13th minute mark but headed into the locker-room at halftime up by 7, and there were a lot of positives from the first half. Penn State appeared to be very confident, rotated the ball well, and took sharp shots.

In the second half, things started to warm-up for the Nittany Lions even more. In just four minutes, the Nittany Lions extended their lead against the Wildcats to 48-31 and never looked back. Northwestern attempted to rally late in the second half with three-point shot and a few field goals, but Penn State took their largest lead of the night with 18 points at the 8-minute mark and never looked back as they left Evanston with a much needed road win.

After two games on the road, Penn State returns to Happy Valley on Thursday, Jan. 28th at 8 p.m. to take on the Wisconsin Badgers. The game will air live on the Big Ten Network.
