Penn State continues to win on the road

The Nittany Lions continue to plow through their four-game road streak with a sweep over Iowa on Wednesday evening (25-16, 25-23, 25-18).

Penn State’s offense continues to perform at the net with the constant pacing of redshirt freshman setter Bryanna Weiskircher. The defense out-blocks opponent after opponent and all players on the court contribute to digs that keep game momentum going.

On Wednesday evening, sophomore Ali Frantti led the Lions with 11 kills, two solo-stuff blocks and four digs. Redshirt senior Aiyana Whitney followed right behind Frantti with 10 kills, four blocks and two digs.

Senior Megan Courtney rounded out the trio with nine kills, team-high 10 digs and two blocks. Weiskircher dished out 32 assists to carry the trio and the rest of the team to a .323 hitting percentage.

Penn State out-blocked Iowa 10-3. The Hawkeyes struggled at the service line and handed Penn State 10 points in service errors.

The win puts the Nittany Lions at 24-2, 13-2 in the conference. Looking ahead, the team has one more away match followed by three home matches in a row.

Penn State ends its four-game road trip at Minnesota on Saturday, Nov. 14. The Nittany Lions are looking for a crucial Big Ten win over the No. 4 Gophers. The match begins at 8 p.m. and BTN Plus will provide coverage.

The last time the two teams met up at the end of September, they battled a five set match in Rec Hall with Penn State coming out on top. Penn State won the first two sets followed by two wins from Minnesota to force a fifth set. The statistics were extremely close and both teams have improved over the season.
