Penn State Ends Regular Season with Biggest Blowout Yet, 47-3 Over Buffalo

Sunday’s match with Buffalo went by a little quicker than your average wrestling match. With five back-to-back falls in the middle of the lineup, Penn State wrestlers put on a season grand finale for a packed Rec Hall.

Jason Nolf, Vincenzo Joseph, Mark Hall, Shakur Rasheed, and Bo Nickal were responsible for the five pins. Nick Lee won by forfeit, Brady Berge won by decision and Anthony Cassar and Roman Bravo-Young both notched majors. A newcomer to the lineup, sophomore Justin Lopez tested the waters at 125 and dropped a 5-0 decision to Buffalo’s Kyle Akins.

It was No. 1 Jason Nolf, No. 1 Bo Nickal and No. 3 Anthony Cassar’s last time wrestling in Rec Hall. Nolf’s pin was the 58th in his career and Nickal’s pin was his 56th. The three seniors were celebrated with the 2019 Senior Day ceremony prior to the start of the match.

The win puts Penn State’s win streak at 59-straight dual meet wins since the end of the 2014-15 season and polished off its fourth straight undefeated season.

Now it’s time for the test of the season, starting March 9-10 in Minneapolis, Minn. for the Big Ten Championship. The weekend starts at 11 a.m. on Saturday and the finals air live on Big Ten Network Sunday at 4 p.m. Iowa, Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State will all be in the hunt for the Big Ten title, with Ohio State looking to repeat for the second year in a row.
