PSU Blow Past Indiana and Gets Ready for Michigan
This past weekend Penn State added two more wins while in Indiana over Purdue and Indiana University.
On Friday night at Purdue, No. 1 Jason Nolf notched a pin in just 42 seconds, followed by another pin from No.1 Vincenzo Joseph. No. 1 Bo Nickal and No. 4 Anthony Cassar added bonus point wins as well with major decisions. The Nittany Lions tallied a few more losses than usual, including 125, 133 and 184. Shakur Rasheed did not wrestle at 184 and was replaced by Francisco Bisono and No. 13 Roman Bravo-Young dropped his match at 133, injuring his knee during the match. Jarod Verkleeren stepped up at 149 in place of Brady Berge with a key victory early in the match.
The Nittany Lions won in a similar story on Sunday over Indiana, but with one less loss at 125. Devin Schnupp posted a strong 5-2 decision and Bravo-Young did not wrestle at 133, giving up the medical forfeit. Nolf, Joseph and Nickal all pinned their opponents - Nolf’s pin locked in just 58 seconds. No. 7 Nick Lee and No. 1 Mark Hall both had major decisions. Once again, Verkleeren pulled through at 149 with a close win over Indiana’s Fernie Silva.
Penn State moves to a 9-0 record and returns to Happy Valley for the big BJC match against No. 6 Michigan on Friday, February 1. The Wolverines are coming off a huge win over No. 2 Ohio State. Catch the action live on Big Ten Network at 7 p.m.
