Underclassman Shine as Penn State Defeat the Buckeyes, 2-1

Penn State women’s soccer ended their last road trip of the season with a 2-1 win over Ohio State. Sophomore Megan Schafer along with freshman Marissa Sheva were the difference for the Lions, each grabbing a goal against the Buckeyes.

The Lions opened the scoring in the eighth minute after Frannie Crouse played a ball to Schafer and Schafer collected it and sent it past the Buckeye goalie Julian McVicker to score her team-leading ninth goal of the season.

Penn State continued to dominate the game throughout the first half, tallying eight shot attempts. Marissa Sheva grabbed her third goal of the year in the 39th minute after a poor giveaway by Ohio State.

The Buckeyes cut the lead in half for Penn State in the 81st minute after a goal from Lindsay Agnew, but her efforts weren’t enough and the Lions earned their 12th win of the season. Senior goalkeeper Britt Eckerstrom finished the game with one save.

With the win, Penn State improves to a 12-3-2 overall record and will head home to Jeffrey Field to finish out their final match of the regular season against the Michigan Wolverines on Wednesday, October 28th at 7 p.m.
