Weekend Activities Penn State Style

This past weekend was filled with all kinds of activities for Penn State students. Saturday kicked off the first day of canning season! Students from numerous Penn State campuses traveled all over to begin raising money for our fight against childhood cancer. Khloe Kardashian gave a shout out to all Penn State canners via twitter and Kevin Jonas even donated!

This was just the first of 3 canning weekends; canning weekends two and three will be held October 18th through the 20th, and again November 8th through the 10th. Keep an eye out for those Penn State THON cans!

Color RunOn Sunday Penn State hosted their first “Color Run”. With nearly 10,000 participants, The Color Run was the largest 5K to ever take place at Penn State. Known as “The happiest 5K on the Plant”, the 3.1 mile run was set up so that runners, who were dressed in all white, were splashed with bursts of color throughout the course. 100% of the proceeds made from The Color Run went directly to the Penn State Homecoming Committee.

This weekend is the official start of homecoming as well as parents and family weekend! If you’re making your way up campus to visit your favorite Penn State student, or just coming to take part in homecoming activities, we’ll have something for everyone!

Friday afternoon between 12PM and 6:30 PM, Penn State’s Operation Smile organization will be holding a bake sale in front of The Student Bookstore on College Ave. Proceeds will benefit children in need of surgery to repair cleft palates. You can get some great homemade baked goods while supporting an amazing cause! The Pegula Ice Rink will also be open Friday night between 8PM and 10PM for public skate.

Saturday October 5th is the homecoming day of service which starts at 8 AM in the Hub. The Great Insect Fair is also taking place Saturday at the Bryce Jordan Center (perfect for families with young children)! Admission into the Insect fairinsect fair is free but donations ARE accepted. You can check out live bug exhibits, play some games and even, if you’re daring enough, taste a few insects!
