4 Weeks 4 THON

It is rare to find an event that Penn Staters take as much pride in as THON. Penn State Dance Marathon, affectionately referred to as THON, is a 46-hour no sitting, no sleeping celebration held each February at the Bryce Jordan Center on Penn State University’s campus. It is a celebration of an entire year’s worth of fundraising for The Four Diamonds Fund at Penn State Children’s Hospital. Since its creation in 1972, The Four Diamonds Fund has provided financial support, emotional support and so much more to families who have children conquering cancer. The organization has also provided research support at Penn State Children’s Hospital to develop medications and treatments for pediatric cancer.

THON is the largest student-run philanthropy in the world, raising over $168 million dollars since 1977. The Four Diamonds Fund at Penn State Children’s Hospital is THON’s sole beneficiary and since its beginning, has NEVER turned a family away. As a local business closely connected to the University, Lions Pride considers it a great honor to host its annual 4 Weeks 4 THON campaign where the store donates 20% of its total sales directly to THON, the four weeks leading up to the event.

Over the last 11 years, Lions Pride’s 4 Weeks 4 THON promotion has been a huge success. When Lions Pride began 4 Weeks 4 THON in 2009, the store donated $17,222. Since that year, Lions Pride has donated over a quarter of a million dollars to THON’s efforts. Each year the promotion has grown and changed in a way to better benefit the pediatric cancer organization.

“As a father of two and a member of the Penn State community, THON has always been near and dear to my heart,” said store owner Steve Moyer. “It has been such a joy to watch THON grow each year and as a Penn State alumnus, it is great to be able to give back. At the store, we love supporting our student-employees who are involved with THON and find that by actively participating in THON, we are also bringing the Penn State community closer together.”

Penn State would not be what it is without THON and Lions Pride would not be able to support such a wonderful organization without the help of the amazing Penn State community. The locally owned and operated business is incredibly grateful to give back to an organization that sums up what it means to be Penn State proud. Shop in-store at Lions Pride, 112 East College Ave. or online at www.lions-pride.com now through February 23, 2020, and 20% of your entire purchase will go directly to THON!
