Full House Victory

With a season-high crowd in attendance, the Nittany Lions brought home their tenth consecutive win on Saturday over Minnesota. Surprise, surprise, they won in their signature style- the 3-0 sweep (25-20, 25-12, 25-23).

The same trio- Whitney, Washington and Grant topped the stats for the second game in a row.

Once again Aiyana Whitney came out on top with a team-high 17 kills, one dig and one block. Haleigh Washington tallied nine kills and a team-high of six blocks. Nia Grant rounded out the group with eight kills, one dig and two blocks.

The first set started the night with a bit of excitement with a total of five tie scores throughout the set. Minnesota held their ground until the final few points when Penn State pulled away with the lead that led them to the win.

The second set was somewhat of a blow out. Penn State dominated the court and kept the Gophers at a stand still once they hit 12 points.

The third set was by far the most exciting. Both teams fought back and forth which resulted in eight tie scores and five lead changes.

With the Gophers in the lead towards the end (23-21), Penn State shot back with a 4-0 run by Washington to carry the Lions to victory.

Minnesota put up a good fight, but Penn State’s total kills and total digs significantly outshined the Gopher totals. Regardless of the sweep, Minnesota proved to be some of the best competition Penn State has faced during their winning streak.

The Nittany Lions are now 26-3, 14-2 in the Big Ten. Their conference play continues this Wednesday, Nov. 19, as they travel to Ann Arbor, Mich.

Last time Penn State faced Michigan, the Nittany Lions won at home in a 3-0 sweep. The Wolverines head into the game this week with much momentum after upsetting No. 17 Ohio State on Saturday.

The game starts at 7 p.m. Wednesday evening and BTN Plus will provide coverage.
