News Blurbs to Keep you Excited about No. 3 Men’s Hockey

Between No. 5 Penn State Football, No. 16 Women’s Volleyball, and now No. 3 Men’s Hockey, it can be hard to keep track of our amazing athletics teams.

  • 3 Men’s Hockey returns to the ice on January 6 against No. 9 Ohio State in Columbus, OH. The Buckeyes are not known to be a standout team in the hockey realm, but have historically given Penn State some trouble in a two-game series. This chippy team will definitely provide some challenges for the skilled Penn Staters.

  • Did you notice our ranking changed? Penn State moved from being one of the top 10 teams in the country to being ranked No. 3 by both USA Hockey Magazine and USCHO.com! This is the first time in program history that Penn State has been ranked in the top five teams in the country. The Frozen Four is calling our name!

  • Former Nittany Lion standout Casey Bailey made his debut with the Ottawa Senators. Bailey notched 35 points with the Senators’ top affiliate team since 2015, and was more than ready to step up to the plate. Bailey left Penn State in 2015 to pursue NHL dreams. We are rooting for you, Casey Bailey!

  • Freshmen Peyton Jones (goalie - Langhorne, Pa.) and Denis Smirnov (forward - Moscow, Russia) earned B1G Ten weekly honors this past week for fantastic performances thus far this season. Jones boasted a .962 save percentage against old foe Michigan a few weeks ago while Smirnov had a hat trick against the Wolverines on Thursday evening for the 6-1 Nittany Lion victory.

  • The No. 3 Nittany Lions currently own a 13-1-1 record and 2-0-0 B1G Ten record, a historic run so far for the program. The rest of the season is filled with conference games and challenges that will put Penn State to the ultimate test. After Ohio State, Penn State will go on to face revered teams such as No.10 Minnesota.

Don’t have season tickets? The next home game is Friday, January 13 against the Michigan State Spartans. Grab some tickets from Go PSU Sports today! You won’t want to miss this historic Penn State Hockey season.
