Nike Big Four Classic

This past weekend the Penn State women’s volleyball team took on No. 6 Texas and No. 8 Florida at the Nike Big Four Classic held in Austin, Texas. Taking on Texas first, the Nittany Lions fought for a 27-25 victory in the first set, and then went back and forth with Texas for the next 3 sets. Tied at two games, the teams were forced into a fifth set battle where Penn State came up short losing 15-10. Despite the loss, the team finished strong with a quick win in 3 sets against Florida.

The Nittany Lions are now ranked No.3 in AVCA Coaches’ poll. After last weekend, their record stands at a solid 3-1 with victories over Syracuse, Louisville, and Florida. A key factor in all three of these wins is setter, Micha Hancock. The All-American junior was named MVP at the Penn State Invitational and continues to prove her All-American title.

This coming weekend Penn State will travel to Fort Myers, Florida for the Florida Gulf Coast Tournament. Here they will face Marquette, Central Arkansas, and Florida Gulf Coast. The next home match for the team will be September 20, 2013 against Albany at 7 p.m. in Rec Hall.
