No. 7 W. Lacrosse and No. 15 M. Lacrosse Defeat Opponents
It was a good weekend for both No. 7 W. and No. 15 M. Lacrosse as the two teams found success against No. 19 Towson and Hobart, respectively.
The Lady Lions (2-0) narrowly defeated Towson, but senior Steph Lazo (Stevensville, Md.) helped propel the team to a 13-11 victory by adding five goals for the day.
Penn State lead 7-0 near the end of the first quarter after a slow start. Freshman Kristin Roberto (Miller Place, N.Y.) notched her first collegiate goal of the season. Kelly Daggett (Bainbridge, Pa.) and Katie O’Donnell (West Chester, Pa.) followed up Roberto’s goal with points of their own to give PSU an 8-2 lead over the Tigers.
Towson came out hot after the half and and quickly added six points to trail by one, 9-8.
Sophomore Madison Carter (Davidsonville, Md.) finally brought the onslaught to an end as she started a 4-0 run for Penn State that Towson never quite caught up to.
Penn State came away with their heads afloat and a 13-11 victory.
The Blue and White host Lehigh at home next Saturday at 3 p.m.
On the men’s side, No. 15 (now No. 14) Penn State (2-0) crushed Hobart 21-15 on the road.
A trio of sophomores and one freshman all secured an astounding four goals apiece to put the Blue and White in a dominant position over the Statesmen: Nick Spillane (Franklin Square, N.Y.), Grant Ament (Doylestown, Pa.), Kevin Hill (Webster, N.Y.), and freshman Mac O’Keefe (Syosset, N.Y.).
Sophomore Ryan Keenan (Smithtown, N.Y.) also contributed to the win by adding two goals while Dan Craig (Shelburne, Ontario), Nick McEvoy (Washington, D.C.), and Tyler Chambers (Media, Pa.) also added a goal apiece.
No. 15 Penn State returns to the field next Saturday at noon as the Blue and White hosts Cornell.
