Nolf Steals The Show In Penn State’s 36-6 Over Bucknell

The Nittany Lions finished their season-opening weekend with another lopsided win over Bucknell on Sunday with a score of 36-6.

The Lions took eight out 10 bouts and tallied two majors, two tech falls, and two pins for another exciting show in front of a full Rec Hall. Five of those six bonus point wins came from Penn State’s powerhouse middle lineup.

It’s not often a team has five national champions wrestling back-to-back matches, unless you’re Penn State. Starting with Zain Retherford at 149 through Bo Nickal at 184, the Lions put up huge wins and will continue to do so throughout the season. Penn State fans are guaranteed a good show with this middle lineup.

This time, No. 1 Jason Nolf stole the show. Nolf came out shooting from the start. His energy made for an exciting, non-stop matchup with Bucknell’s Christian Bassolino. Nolf almost immediately scored off a low-single and started to cut Bassolino from there. After seven takedowns and a comfortable 15-6 lead, Nolf locked up a cradle and ended the action with a pin at the 3:33 mark.

No. 15 Corey Keener also had a dominant showing at 133 putting up that sixth bonus-point win with a major. Heavyweight No. 3 Nick Nevills finished Penn State’s eighth win of the match with a strong 11-4 win.

Devin Schnupp came up short once again at 125 in a hard fought 3-1 loss. Penn State’s second loss came at 197. Anthony Cassar started a late rally in his matchup against Bucknell’s Garrett Hoffman, but it wasn’t enough to close the deficit and he fell to an 11-8 loss.

Next up, Penn State hits the road for a 7 p.m. matchup at Binghamton on Friday, Nov. 17.
