Page Leads Lions to Victory Over Illinois, 65-56

Freshman Teniya Page scored 27 points to give the Penn State Lady Lions a come-from-behind victory over Big Ten opponent Illinois Saturday afternoon in Champaign. After trailing in the third quarter by 11 points, Penn State rallied back to earn their eighth win of the season.

The first half of the game was sluggish for both sides. Illinois (8-11, 1-7), struggled from the field shooting only 23% while Penn State (8-11, 3-5) went 6-28 from the field but made up for it on the defensive side, grabbing rebounds and shutting down the Illini offense. While the Lady Lions were able to shut down Illinois in the first half, they couldn’t capitalize on those mistakes and were unable to develop a lead against the home team and went into the locker-room trailing 26-20.

After an 11-point lead by the Illini in the beginning of the third quarter, the Lady Lions responded with a 14-4 run to close the gap between the two teams and never looked back entering into the fourth quarter. Penn State scored 27 points in the fourth quarter to close out their rally and defeated Illinois by nine. Penn State now holds a 31-15 record all-time against the Illini.

The player of the game goes to Teniya Page who logged her fourth career 20-point game. Page scored 17 of her 27 points in the second half and went 9-9 from the free throw line, recorded five rebounds and two assists on the afternoon. Brianna Banks added 12 points and Kaliyah Mitchell and Lindsey Spann recorded nine points.

The Lady Lions are headed back to Happy Valley to host local Big Ten rival the University of Maryland on Wednesday, January 27 at 7 p.m. Fans unable to make the game can stream the game live on BTN Plus.
