Penn State Pink Zone Game a Big Success

In just its 7th annual showcase, the Lady Lions Pink Zone Game continues to show nothing but an inspiring, upward trajectory. This past Sunday, over 14,000 fans packed the Bryce Jordan Center (the 4th largest attendance in Lady Lion history) to see the Lady Lions clinch at least a share of the Big Ten Title on what also happened to be senior night. In their final game at the BJC, Mia Nickson and Alex Bentley both made big plays in the second half and helped lead the Lady Lions to a 68-57 victory. With a win on Thursday against Minnesota or a Nebraska loss at Wisconsin, Penn State will win the regular season championship outright.

Many of the fans came to the game to celebrate the efforts of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Pink Zone Organization in conjunction with the Lady Lions to raise money and awareness for the fight against Breast Cancer. Last year a grand total of $203,000 was raised for the cure (this year’s amount has yet to be released). What makes the event truly special, however, is the celebration of the survivors. A total of 620 proud women filled the floor at halftime holding up cards with the number of years that they have survived after initial diagnosis. This amount came out to be in excess of 3,000 years, which is just a mind-numbing figure. But other than that, nothing very exciting or inspirational occurred.
