Rally Back for the Win

Penn State remains undefeated in the Big Ten after their 3-1 win over Minnesota on Saturday. The game put Penn State at 14-1, 2-0 in the conference.

The team’s top three scorers clinched double-digit kill performances. Nia Grant led with 14 kills, one ace, two digs and eight blocks. Megan Courtney followed with 12 kills, four digs and seven blocks. Aiyana Whitney matched Courtney’s 12 kills; she also had one dig and six blocks.

Micha Hancock added 50 assists to aid the win and Dominique Gonzalez carried the defense with a total of 26 digs.

The Nittany Lions got off to a rough start losing the first set 29-27. The end of the set came down to two service errors by PSU followed by a block and two kills from the Gophers.

PSU came back winning the following three sets (25-13, 25-15, 25-22). They utilized multiple scoring spurts and refused to give up momentum when Minnesota rallied back.

Simone Lee, Megan Courtney and Aiyana Whitney played a key role at the net controlling multiple kill streaks. On the defensive end, the trio stopped several Minnesota score streaks with crucial blocks.

Penn State continues Big Ten conference play this weekend against Nebraska. They travel to Lincoln, Neb. on Friday October 3 to take on the Cornhuskers at 8 p.m. BTN will provide TV coverage of the game.
