The Nittany Lions won nine out of ten bouts with their only loss coming at the end in the heavyweight bout.
Sophomore Kade Moss started for the second match in a row at 141 over No. 6 junior Jimmy Gulibon, who moved up to the 141-weight class after competing last season at 133. Moss posted his second win at 141 following two big wins from Megaludis and Conaway.
After the break, Penn State redshirt freshman and 165-pounder, Shakur Rasheed posted an exciting upset win over Rider’s No. 15 Chad Walsh. He turned a double-leg takedown into a pin at the 4:28 mark and stunned the Bronc fifth-year senior.
In the next bout, redshirt freshman No. 5 Bo Nickal reversed Rider’s Wayne Stinson and rolled him to his shoulders for another pin at 3:08.
Going into the final bout of the day, Penn State was up 38-0 and the win in the bag. Sanderson seems to be trying out different wrestlers in the heavyweight spot and this week was junior 174- pound Caleb Livingston. His 6-17 loss wasn’t exactly pretty, but he did score one takedown reversal.
The heavyweight spot still looks uncertain, but the middle of the Nittany Lion lineup continues to win big so no match has come down that final bout.
Penn State’s record now stands at 6-0, 1-0 in the Big Ten. After a short holiday break, the Nittany Lions travel to Tennessee for the annual Southern Scuffle tournament. The two-day competition is Jan. 1-2 starting at 9 a.m. both days.
