Nittany Lions Drop Decision to Nebraska, 70-54
Penn State men’s basketball season woes continue, as they dropped a 70-54 decision to the Nebraska Cornhuskers in Lincoln Saturday night. The loss, which is the 13th of the season now moves the Nittany Lions to 12-13 on the season, with only three conference wins.
While the team is collectively struggling to get results on the court, individual players are shining for the team. Senior guard Brandon Taylor continues to lead the team in points, this time with a 14-point outing. Saturday’s game marked Taylor’s 13th consecutive double-digit game this season. Shep Garner and Jordan Dickerson led the team with six rebounds apiece.
During the game, the Nittany Lions failed to shut down 6’7” Cornhusker guard Andrew White III. White scored half of Nebraska’s points en route to the Cornhusker win, including six 3-pointers.
White helped Nebraska get off to a fast start, scoring 15 points in the first 10 minutes of the match. Penn State was able to hang with Nebraska in the first half, leading 31-27 for a few minutes of the first half. However, in the closing minutes of the first half, Nebraska was able to close the gap and head into the locker-room with a 32-31 lead. In the second half, Nebraska outscored the Nittany Lions 38-23 to earn their 14th win of the season. Penn State struggled offensively to produce while unable to stop the Cornhuskers on defense.
With the loss Saturday, Penn State has not won two consecutive games since December of 2015. The team will once again be tested as they host No. 4 Iowa this Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
