Penn State Spring Sports Update

Women’s Gymnastics finds success at Big Ten showdown, Men’s Golf secures Athletic Director’s Trophy down south.

  • Women’s Gymnastics (5-2, 2-2) secured a home win against Michigan State with a season-high score of 195.925. Sophomore Sabrina Garcia (Etters, Pa.) found a new personal best in 39.400 as she made her way to her first all-around title. Senior Emma Sibson (Allen, Texas) tied with Garcia for second on vault. Said Coach Jeff Thompson: “I’m very proud of our team this week.”

  • Men’s Gymnastics (2-1, 0-1) fell by less than 10 points in their Big Ten meet against Illinois. However, Favian Valdez (Kearny, N.J.) secured the all-around title as Stephen Nedoroscik (Worcester, Mass.) captured first place on the pommel horse. Dominic DiFulvio (Marietta, N.Y.) came in fourth on vault.

  • Men’s Golf found success in Florida this past weekend as they claimed the Athletic Director’s Trophy in a tournament with West Virginia University. Penn State defeated WVU by nine strokes, and Head Coach Greg Nye called the tournament “fantastic.”

  • Women’s Tennis (2-3, 2-3) found Kentucky to be a difficult opponent and fell 6-1 against the Wildcats. Katia Blik (Moscow, Russia) won her singles match and kept Penn State afloat. Despite the loss, Head Coach Chris Cagle called the meet the team’s “most complete” one of the season thus far. The team faces off against Pitt next weekend in Pittsburgh.
